CFP for College Library Information on Policy and Practice

From the ACRL Insider blog :

"...College Libraries Section (CLS) is pleased to announce the launch of CLIPP: College Library Information on Policy and Practice, a reconceptualization of ACRL’s CLIPNotes publication series. ... this next generation monographic series will provide richer context and more sophisticated analysis of current trends and issues....

The underlying premise of CLIPP is that libraries across the country are grappling with the same challenges and there is much to be gained by sharing information. ...

Each CLIPP volume will explore an important library issue through a comprehensive literature review, survey data, and best practices documents, which will provide actual solutions created by other colleges and small universities.

Call for Proposals

Any librarian at a college or small university can submit a publication proposal to the CLIPP committee. Any trend or subject of interest to college and small university libraries is a potential topic. Proposal ideas could include:

  • The changing nature of collections (e-books, remote storage, weeding policies, etc.)
  • Mobile access
  • Grant writing
  • Staff development
  • The place of the library in campus organizational structures

For a full description of the submission and publication process, visit the CLIPP website.

CFP : Special Issue on Data Curation

From A Library Writers Blog :

"The Journal of Web Librarianship is pleased to announce an upcoming special issue on the topic of data curation, edited by Susan Sharpless Smith.

Data curation, “the active and on-going management of data through its lifecycle of interest and usefulness to scholarly and educational activities across the sciences, social sciences, and the humanities,” is an emerging field that brings new opportunities and challenges for libraries. The growing movement to effectively manage, archive, preserve, retrieve and reuse research data is one that compliments traditional library missions to preserve and access information. This special issue will explore issues surrounding this new arena. The issue’s scope includes but is not limited to:
•    Data curation theory and practice
•    Roles for research libraries and librarians
•    Data storage infrastructures
•    Digital forensics
•    Libraries as partners in data curation strategies
•    Data stewardship
•    Sustainability of long term data management programs
•    Ontologies for data integration
•    Realizing goals for reuse and combination of datasets
•    Education and skills required for data curators
•    Discovery and retrieval systems
•    Data repositories
•    Born digital video
•    Outreach strategies
•    Looking to the future

cfp: Canadian Association for Information Science 2009 Annual Conference

from the email:

*Canadian Association for Information Science: Call for Papers*

The Canadian Association for Information Science invites abstract submissions for its 37th Annual Conference, to be held May 28-30, 2009 at Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, as part of the 2009 Congress of the Canadian Federation of the Humanities and Social Sciences.

*Deadline for proposals is January 16, 2009*. Proposals, including the
name(s) of the author(s), mailing and e-mail addresses, telephone and fax numbers, should be sent electronically (Word or rich text format please) to conf2009@cais-acsi.ca.

The conference theme is "*Mapping the 21st Century Information Landscape:
Borders, Bridges and Byways*".

We are seeking submissions that address any aspects of the following
questions:

   - How are the traditional information institutions of the 20th century
and the broader information landscapes within which they continue to operate
responding to the real and perceived pressures of a 21st century information
   economy?
   - Has globalization and its effects on the information landscape produced
a "sea-change" in our understanding of the role and function of information
institutions, information services and information workers?
   - Does history help or hinder our ability to describe, analyze and
interpret contemporary conditions? What are the historical continuities or
discontinuities that shed light on current issues in library and information
   science?
   - Many argue that "the local" matters more and more. What are the
boundaries and bridges between the local and the global in existing and
   emerging information landscapes?
